Dedicated to reducing the outdoor cat population through Trap-Neuter-Return since 2000
Elizabeth Mattfield, Treasurer
Elizabeth is a licensed professional engineer who worked in New York City design and construction for 17 years after graduating from Columbia University. She has been a civil servant for the City of New York and federal government since 2017, serving enforcement divisions of both. She has 12 years of experience revising municipal, technical and industry codes as well as implementation of local laws during her tenure as an engineer for the City of New York.
She met Kathy while addressing colonies of unfixed cats in her workplace and neighborhood, and became a volunteer for the rescue, trapping hundreds of cats alongside Kathy for several years. Despite Kathy and Elizabeth’s massive canvassing efforts, outreach, and trapping innovations, they both agree that TNR will not work without caretakers who are fully responsible for the maintenance of the colony. This is also not possible without functioning animal control that reports to the State Department of Health and performs recordkeeping and resolution of municipal issues related to cats.
Along with Kathy’s outreach to local government, Elizabeth has reviewed ordinances and local laws for nearly every municipality in New Jersey and assists Kathy in keeping Whiskers’ “feral fixers” compliant with their towns’ laws.
Elizabeth believes that there is always another feeder, even when you think you’ve spoken to every neighbor. For this reason, she never goes anywhere without a trail cam, which always proves her right.
